Gambling addiction can escalate quickly, often going unnoticed, and as a result, is sometimes thought of as a hidden addiction. It is as destructive as drugs or alcohol but can remain hidden for years. The good news is, recovery is possible, and there is a wide range of support and treatment available for people addicted to gambling, and their friends and family.
The National Gambling Support Network (NGSN) is a group of organisations across Great Britain that provide free, confidential, and personalised support for anyone who is experiencing problems from gambling, as well as those affected by someone else’s gambling.
One of the organisations in the NGSN is Gordon Moody. They provide free residential treatment for severe gambling addiction and have been at the frontline for over 50 years helping people reclaim and rebuild their lives through recovery in safe, supportive environments.
Their treatment centres are places of healing and hope providing effective therapies, interventions, and counselling delivered by highly qualified professionals, from accredited psychotherapists to clinical psychologists, trained and equipped to focus not just on gambling addiction, but also on other co-occurring dependencies and mental health conditions.
If you, or someone you know, would like to know more about their services, further details can be found on the Gordon Moody website. You can also call, in confidence, on 01384 241292, or email: help@gordonmoody.org.uk. Treatment is available across the UK for anyone aged over 18.
The National Gambling Helpline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 0808 802 0133. Their advisors provide one-to-one confidential advice, information, and support. This free service is operated by GamCare.
