Christmas Loans – Making Christmas More Affordable

Christmas should be a time of happiness with family and friends however we know that the cost of presents, food and celebrations can really add up to feel stressful.

At Moneyline, we understand that a Christmas Loan sometimes helps spread the cost but we also want to share ideas to help reduce how much you need to borrow – or avoid borrowing at all!

Also, please be aware that loan sharks can take advantage of Christmas and what they offer will look like a really good deal. It isn’t always money they offer and it can be the latest toys that are hard to find in the shop. Read more on spotting a loan shark here

Spreading the Cost of Christmas

Here are some simple tips that could make Christmas easier on your pocket and reduce the need for a Christmas loan:

  • Plan ahead with food – Each week pop one extra item in your shopping that won’t go out of date, like stuffing or cranberry sauce. By Christmas, you’ll already have a cupboard full.
  • Homemade presents– Can you make something or give a homemade voucher for your time instead of buying gifts? Thoughtful presents often mean the most.
  • Celebrate later– Some people agree to swap presents or have dinner after the 25th December. You can pick up bargains in the Boxing Day sales and still enjoy the day together, just a little later and a lot cheaper!
  • Start early for next year – even saving £1 a week from January could cover Christmas dinner in 2027 and reduce the need for a Christmas loan.

When a Christmas Loan Could Help

Sometimes a  Christmas Loan  is the right choice to spread the cost. If you are thinking about applying for one, here are some things to consider:

  • Make a budget– Work out how much you really need and check you can afford the repayments. Don’t forget to include any “buy now pay later” payments such as Klarna or ClearPay.
  • Use your payment holidays – If you take a loan with Moneyline, you may be able to keep one of your payment holidays for over Christmas, giving you a little help when you need it most.
  • Borrow only what you need– A smaller loan means lower repayments, helping you start the New Year with less financial worries.
