Moneyline in Scotland launch event in Glasgow

Last month we launched Moneyline in Scotland, marking an important step in helping expand access to affordable credit and reducing financial inclusion across Scotland. The launch event, held at Glasgow City Chambers, brought together organisations, policymakers and community partners who are working to reduce financial exclusion, improve financial wellbeing and increase financial resilience in Scotland.

Representatives from the Scottish government, local authorities, advice agencies, banks, credit unions and community organisations joined the event in Glasgow to discuss how collaboration can help expand access to small loans and ensure more people have access to the financial tools they need to build financial resilience.

The strong turnout reflected a shared commitment across sectors to address financial exclusion and create better financial choices for people and communities across Scotland.

Working Together to Improve Financial Inclusion in Scotland

A key theme throughout the launch event was the importance of partnership. No one organisation can tackle financial exclusion and it requires organisations across sectors to work together to develop practical solutions that support people who are often underserved by mainstream financial services for a variety of different reasons.

We believe that everyone, regardless of income or circumstance, should be able to access the financial services they need. Often low-income households need a small loan that is flexible in when and how they pay, reducing the stress that more structured financial products can bring. For many people, access to affordable credit remains limited. When people cannot access the products they need to spread the cost of larger costs, they may be forced to rely on inappropriate credit products, illegal money lenders or use of pawnbrokers.

We have taken the time to understand the differences in financial lives between people living in England and Scotland and will bring this knowledge alive in our customer journeys and products for our Scottish customers. Working closely with our partners we can continue this learning journey, ensuring our products fit the Scottish customer needs.

Addressing financial exclusion is therefore about more than providing financial products. It requires working with partners to create a system where people can access safe, transparent and responsible financial services that support long-term financial wellbeing.

Highlighting the Reality of Life Without a Financial Safety Net

A powerful part of the launch event in Glasgow was the exhibition from The Poverty Alliance and Fair By Design“Give Me Some Credit: The Reality of Life Without a Safety Net.”

The exhibition highlights the lived experiences of people facing financial exclusion in Scotland and the challenges of managing everyday finances without access to affordable credit.

By sharing real stories and experiences, the exhibition brought to life the reality faced by many people who are excluded from mainstream financial services. It served as a reminder of why improving access to credit remains so important.

Voices from Across the Financial Inclusion Sector

The event also featured speakers from organisations working to improve financial inclusion across the UK.

We were pleased to hear insights from:

Each speaker highlighted the importance of partnership, policy and community engagement in tackling financial exclusion in Scotland and ensuring people have access to fair financial choices.

Their contributions reinforced the importance of working collectively to deliver lasting change and improve financial access for communities across Scotland.

A New Chapter for Moneyline in Scotland

Moneyline’s expansion into Scotland represents an important milestone for us in increasing access to affordable and responsible credit for people who may struggle to access mainstream financial services.

The launch in Glasgow marks the beginning of Moneyline’s work with partners across Scotland to support communities. We would like to thank everyone who joined us in Glasgow for such an energising and thoughtful discussion. We look forward to continuing to work with organisations across Scotland to help reduce financial exclusion, improve financial resilience and financial wellbeing, and create stronger financial futures for people and communities.
