The Healthy Start vouchers scheme has been set up by the Government and the NHS, to offer certain people, vouchers to help buy the basics such as fruit/veg and milk.

Do I qualify for the vouchers?

You will qualify for the Healthy Start Vouchers as long as you are over 10 weeks pregnant, or have a child under the age of 4, and you or your family are on one of the following benefits:

  1. Income Support
  2. Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
  3. Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  4. Child Tax Credit with a family income less than £16,190
  5. Pension Credit
  6. Universal Credit

You also qualify if you are under 18yrs old and pregnant, even if you don’t get any of the above benefits.

What can I buy with the vouchers?

Healthy Start vouchers are for –

  1. Fresh or frozen fruit and vegetables.
  2. Milk (plain cows’ milk either whole, semi-skimmed, skimmed or UHT)
  3. Infant formula (not follow on milk)
  4. Healthy start vitamins.
Where can I use the Vouchers?

Lots of shops and supermarkets will accept the vouchers, including corner shops, milk vans, green grocers, and pharmacies. The shops that take part in the scheme will have a Healthy Start sticker in their window, but if you can’t see one, just ask inside to check.

How do I apply for the vouchers?

You can apply for the Healthy Start Vouchers by either asking for an application leaflet from your midwife/health visitor, or you can call 0345 607 6823 and they will post a form out to you. You can also apply online to complete the form.
